Monday, December 26th (Day 1)
Drive from Santa Teresa to Porto Alegre (493 km)
(Thru Punta de la Coronilla, La Coronilla, Las Maravillas, Barra del Chuy, Barra do Chui, Santa Vitoria do Palmar, Curral Alto, Talm, Sarandi, Quinta, Pelotas, Bonito, Sentinela do Sul and Guaiba)
Morning- Drive from Santa Teresa through the Uruguayan city of Chuy and cross the border into Brazil's Chui.
Afternoon- Begin the lengthly drive to the capital of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil's most southern state), Porto Alegre.
Evening- Relax and explore the nightlife of Porto Alegre.
Tuesday, December 27th (Day 2)
Rest day in Porto Alegre.
Morning/Afternoon- Prepare for Brazil ride. Explore Porto Alegre.
Evening- Fundraising event at the Centro Cultural Usina do Gasometro. Event will include: Welcome and recognition of sponsoring organizations and guests, a substantial check donation to our non-profit partners, dinner and drinks, live music, dancing, and a video and slide presentations. Enjoy the evening!
Wednesday, December 28th (Day 3)
Porto Alegre to Balneario Pinhal (95km)
Morning- Small event with local non-profit partners in Porto Alegre at the Parque Paulo Gama. Invite the community to join in the Odyssey team in a 'tandem tour of the city'.
Afternoon/Evening-
Drive north from Porto Alegre to Balneario Pinhal and camp.
Thursday, December 29th (Day 4)
Balneario Pinhal to Capao da Canoa (67 km)
(Thru Cidreira, Oasis, Tranamdai, Imbe, Santa Teresinha, Atlantida Sul and
Xangri-La)
Morning-
Check out the windsurfing scene at the Praia de Atlântida, the best-known beach in the area.
Afternoon- Ride from
Balneario Pinhal to Capao da Canoa.
Evening-
Celebrate with an 'international dinner' at the campsite.
Friday, December 30th (Day 5)
Capao da Canoa to Torres (40 km)
(Thru Capao Novo, Arroio Teixeira, Cururmim and Arrolo do Sal)
Morning- Ride from Capao da Canoa to Torres.
Afternoon/Evening- Give a "Seeds of Change" presentation at the Torres secondary school. Presentation will include a video and slide show, an interactive skit by the Odyssey team, tandem rides on the Odyssey bikes, games, and giveaways from the One World Odyssey and our sponsors. Following the presentation, enjoy a traditional Brazilian dinner with students, teachers and their families.
Saturday, December 31st (Day 6)
Rest day in Torres
Morning/Afternoon- Surf event in Torres with local surf school. Give tandem surf rides to local children and adults, take a lesson from the surf school, and enjoy a picnic lunch on the beach.
Evening- Celebrate New Year's Eve on the beaches of Torres!
Sunday, January 1st (Day 7)
Torres to Lagoa de Fora (40 km)
(Thru Sao Joao, Curralinjo, Furacao and Rio Novo.)
Morning- Do a beach clean-up in Torres with the local community and non-profit partners. Ride from Torres to Lagoa de Fora.
Afternoon- Swim & surf in Lagoa de Fora. Enjoy a pre-planned soccer game with locals near the campsite.
Evening- Invite the community to join us for an 'international dinner' at the One World Odyssey campsite.
Monday, January 2nd (Day 8)
Lagoa de Fora to Pedreiras (58km)
(Thur Palmeiras, Sanga do Veado, Mato Alto, Ararangua, Morro do Conventos,
Hercillo Luz, Barra Velha and Lagoa dos Esteves)
Morning/Afternoon- Ride from Lagoa de Fora to Pedreiras.
Evening- Give a "Seeds of Change" presentation at the Pedreiras Community Center. Presentation will include: A video and slide show, an interactive skit by the Odyssey team, tandem rides on the Odyssey bikes, games, and giveaways from the One World Odyssey and our sponsors. Enjoy a traditional Brazilian dinner with dancing following the presentation.
Tuesday, January 3rd (Day 9)
Pedreiras to Laguna (69 km)
(Thru Urussanga Velha, Torneiro, Campo Bom, Morro Bonita, Garapaba do Sul and Camacho and Cigana)
Morning-
Invite the community to join the Odyssey team for a traditional American breakfast at the campsite.
Afternoon- Ride from Pedreiras to Laguna. Visit children in the local orphanage. Take them for rides on the tandem bikes, have giveaways, etc.
Evening- Explore the town.
Wednesday, January 4th (Day 10)
Laguna to Garopaba (54 km)
(Thru Itapiruba, Roca Grande, Guaiuba, Villa Nova, Imbituba, Barra de
Ibiraquera, Prala do Rosa, Ressaca and Palhocinha)
Morning- Ride from Laguna to Garopaba.
Afternoon- Tandem surfing with disabled children in Garopaba. Share lunch with children and their families on the beach.
Evening- Invite the local community to share an 'international dinner' and celebration at the campsite.
Thursday, January 5th (Day 11)
Garopaba to Pinheira (34 km)
(Thru Macacu, Paulo Lopes, Morretes and Guarda do Embau)
Morning-
Ride from Garopaba to Pinheira.
Afternoon- Give a “Seeds of Change” presentation at the Pinheira secondary school.
Evening- Enjoy an 'international dinner’ with students, teachers and their families, followed by a cultural exchange program and giveaways.
Friday, January 6th (Day 12)
Pinheira to Florianopolis (50 km)
(Thru Ilha do Papagaio, Passe do Massiambu, Fazenda Santa Cruz, Ensenada de Brito, Praia de Fora, Aririu Formiga, Palhoca and Sao Jose)
Morning- Ride from Pinheira to
Florianopolis.
Afternoon-
Celebrate arrival in Florianopolis with non-profit partners and local community at the Praca Getulio Vargas. Event will include: Welcome and recognition of sponsoring organizations and guests, tandem rides on the Odyssey bikes, lunch, music, games and giveaways.
Evening- Explore the nightlife of Florianopolis!
Saturday, January 7th (Day 13)
Relax and play on the Island of Santa Catarina
Morning/ Afternoon- Explore Santa Catarina. Surf & Swim. Paraglide (with an instructor) over Praia Mole (US$18)
Evening- Fundraising event at a bar/restaurant along the Beira Mar Norte. Event will include: Welcome and recognition of sponsoring organizations and guests, a substantial check donation to our non-profit partners, dinner and drinks, live music and dancing, a capoeira demonstration, and video and slide presentations. Enjoy the evening!
Sunday, January 8th (Day 14)
Relax and play on the Island of Santa Catarina
Morining/Afternoon- Rally bikers and the local community to join us on a day trip to Lagoa de Conceicao, a popular beach to swim, canoe and windsurf. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the beach. Ride back to Florianopolis in the afternoon.
Evening- Enjoy an 'international dinner' at the Odyssey campsite with local non-profit partners.
Monday, January 9th (Day 15)
Florianopolis to Foz do Iguaca
Morning/ Afternoon- Drive from Florianopolis to Foz do Iguaca. (643km)
Evening- Explore Foz do Iguaca. Relax at the campsite.
Tuesday, January 10th, 2006 (Day 16)
Rest Day in Foz do Iguaca
Morning- Visit the majestic Cataratas do Iguacu (Iguacu Falls) and the Parque Das Aves, a 100 acre park that is home to over 800 bird species.
Afternoon- Give a "Seeds of Change" presentation at the Foz do Iguaca Community Center. Presentation will include: A video and slide show, an interactive skit by the Odyssey team, tandem rides on the Odyssey bikes, games and giveaways from the One World Odyssey and our sponsors.
Evening- Fundraising event at the Gilles Night Bar. Event will include: Welcome and recognition of sponsoring organizations and guests, a substantial check donation to our non-profit partners, dinner and drinks, live samba & dancing, and a video and slide presentation. Enjoy the evening!
Wednesday, January 11th, 2006 (Day 17)
Foz do Iguaca, Uruguay to Yguazu, Paraguay
(Thru Ciudad Del Este)
Morning- Cross the border into Paraguay at Ciudad Del Este. Drive 100km west to Yguazu.
Afternoon- Rest day in Yguazu. Prepare for Paraguay ride.
Back to Uruguay . . .
On to Paraguay . . .
